Green Lantern

Green Lantern was my first project at Yu+Co. I was called in to help with lighting and look development on the title and all things green and glass looking.

Priest

I came on Priest while it was in distress. There were lots of issues with the shots and we were right up against deadline. Initially, I comped a couple shots in Nuke, such as the shot of Priest crashing on the top of the train, after taking a flying kick to the chest (that part [...]

Piranha

Piranha was one of the funnest, and also most horrible jobs I worked on. It was fun because we got to create some outrageous mayhem, such as eyeballs being snatched and torn off. The more over the top, the more the client liked it. It was hell because we had 3 weeks to create 30 [...]

Stone of Dreams

For Wizards of Waverly Place: The Quest for the Stone of Dreams, I was lead lighter for the chasm crossing sequence. Ethan Summers sculpted a magnificent canyon in Zbrush, with hanging vines and vegetation, which I added to, textured and dressed up with more paintFX vegetation and cards for trees.  The young heroes in the [...]

G Force

On G-Force, I worked as lighting and compositing TD. Working with Imageworks’ proprietary Katana tool set and renderers, as well as RenderMan and Arnold, was a great learning experience. It’s also the first fur project I worked on. I think RenderMan is fantastic at rendering fur. The shots I worked on were full CG, with [...]

The Box

On The Box, I did the look development of the gruesome scar sported by Frank Langella, the main villain. I worked with Thomas Kernan, who provided the mesh which he refined from a scan of a practical prosthetic. I developed the shaders, painted textures and worked with our comp leads Josiah and Beak to develop [...]

Southland Tales

Working on this movie was an epic of sorts. I worked on it at two different studios, in many capacities. From doing concept art for Richard Kelly to look development, layout, lighting, etc… It was a pleasure at times and a daunting task with a skeleton crew at others. I was one of the few [...]

Feast of Love

This project was my first at Gradient. It involved an interesting set and camera move extension. Can you spot where the cg ends? I think we did a good job with it. Everything before the treeline is CG. All buildings are 3D and we used a sky replacement as well. I modeled some of the [...]

Transformers

Transformers was my first project working with Render Man at Asylum. I created large displacements for the surface of Mars based on actual Mars DEM data. I textured all 3D elements and did some layout as well. The particles emitted around the probe in re-entry were controlled by an incandescence map. Render Man can do [...]

Deja Vu

On Deja Vu, I textured parts of the ferry boat. An actual ferry was shot with a huge practical fireball. Additional destruction and CG doubles were inserted. We built a CG ferry boat double for integration purposes. This had to be textured for surface and underwater shots.

NEXT

For Next, I lit some shots, did some layout and animation. For this particular shot, I also painted the hill as a backdrop. This shot was a green screen with only the foreground logs.
